The School Day

Our school day begins at 8.50am. Children can come in through the side gate on Lancaster Road from 8.45am onwards and go straight into school. We ask that parents and carers remain outside the gate.

If a child arrives after 8.55am they will be marked in the register as late. Registration closes at 9.15am. If a child arrives after that they will be marked as an unauthorised absence.

Morning break will be at 10.30am. In the morning, the focus will be on English and Maths.

Oak Class (Reception and Year 1) will break for lunch at 12 noon.

Birch class (Years 2, 3 and 4) will follow at 12.05pm. Willow (Years 4, 5 and 6) will go to lunch at 12.10pm.

Afternoon school will start at 1.00pm. The afternoon will be devoted to other subjects including PE.

Oak class will leave school at 3.05 pm, followed by Birch at 3.10 pm and Willow by 3.15pm. Children will leave by the side gate, and again we ask parents and carers to wait outside the gate. This would be an opportunity to talk to your child's teacher if you need to.

This equates to between 31 hours 15 minutes to 32 hours 5 minutes in a typical school week.

What parents and children need to do

  • Children need to be in school every day by 8.50am.  If your child is late you will receive a text message from the school to remind you to be on time the following day.

  • If your child is absent from school for any reason you must phone the school office before 9.30am, on the day that they are absent.  You can call on 01485 528368.

  • If you do not contact the school office, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Action taken by the school:

  • Once a month each child’s attendance is monitored – if it is above 95% no further action will be taken, but it will be monitored the following month.

  • If attendance is, or drops to between 90% and 95%, a letter of concern will be sent to parents.

  • If attendance continues to drop below 90% we will set up a School Attendance Contract.  Attendance will be reviewed after one month to see if improvement has been made.

  • If the School Attendance Contract fails to improve attendance the next stage will involve the local authority attendance team.  This will involve entering into the Fast Track procedure which may result in a Court Hearing or Fixed Penalty Fine.
